Get thirsty when painting? Just lick the paint brush :)
Coffee has been known as a painting medium for many years now. Yet, it is still worth exploring. Its sepia effect gives a unique touch and feeling to the art. It can be used as along with other mediums. Most suitable is with watercolor because the share the same techniques. The only difference is the medium.
Although for some artists, coffee painting should be done purely with coffee only. The result is amazing! With some experiments the artist will find the richness of this interesting medium, the fun and excitement of using coffee to produce interesting hues and tones.
Andy Saur and Angel Sarkela Saur are the examples of coffee painting artists who has succeeded in exploring this medium. They surely has taken the art of coffee to a whole new level.
Their excellent and beautiful works of art are captured in their website: Just Coffee Art which has been featured in publications around the world.
All the artworks are painted entirely in coffee - no additives, just 100% pure coffee. Artists have been using coffee as washes for sketches and other shading for some time, but this is one of the first times where a process is used to gain very dark hues. People ask what they do to achieve this darkness, all they can say is that it takes a special process and it is their secret formula.
During the month of June you can catch a local exhibition of Just Coffee Art at the Red Mug Gallery at the Red Mug Coffeehouse in Superior, 916 Hammond Avenue, Superior, WI.

Even though artists have used coffee as an artistic medium in the field for literally centuries it has only been the last few decades that it has raised to fine art status. I enjoy reading articles from anyone has discovered this medium and find it as fascinating as I do.
Angel and Andy have some wonderful work on their site but there are dozens of coffee artists out there, some have been doing coffee paintings for years longer, even decades.
Some of the work I do with coffee is pure 100% coffee from different blends and roasts. Other work I’ve done suspends coffee in an en caustic medium giving a very different translucent effect.
On my coffee painting web site No Such Animal Studios you can see my coffee art as well as a list of other artists and their Web address. I also keep a blog dedicated to coffee art and the artists who use coffee as an artistic medium – Uncommon Grounds. As far as I know it is the most extensive collection of information on coffee art and coffee artists.
Thank you for the article here on your blog though when going through the rest of your site I found the full page ads taking over my computer desktop to quite annoying. These ads really did keep me from digging deeper into what you had to say or finding out any more about you.

Shakurani,
Don't feel embarrassed. I was painting with coffee for a year before I
realized I wasn't the only one. There are a few but not like oil
painters or watercolor artists! We are still a very small group!
Please feel free to use anything on my web site
http://www.nosuchanimal.net or my blog
http://www.uncommon-grounds.blogspot.com to get the work and word out there!
I always enjoy seeing what other people think and what they enjoy.
Passions are a very powerful and beautiful thing! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for taking an interest in coffee painting and coffee artists!
